Build Your Trading Watchlist Like a Pro

The First Step to Smarter Trading on AIB DigiTrader

Before you place your first trade, the most important tool to master on AIB DigiTrader and the online portal is the Watchlist.

It helps you filter noise, track your positions, and spot opportunities early — without getting overwhelmed. DigiTrader provides three watchlists, and each one can have a strategic role.

🔵 My Watchlist 1 — Main Watchlist (Default) Your Market Radar

This is the default watchlist, and you can rename it anytime using the long-press on the title on the app or on the portal by clicking directly on the name.

To add counters:

  • Use the Search bar
  • Use the Add Script (+ icon)

To clean or reorganize:

  • Long-press to remove counters
  • Or use the online web portal for faster bulk editing

Purpose of this Watchlist

Show you the true market direction at a glance. Add all the stocks you follow, but remove noisy penny counters that distract you.

  • Overall market movement — Which sectors are pushing the day? Banks? Telcos? Energy?
  • Unusual price behaviour — Sudden spikes or drops = news or a massive buy/sell order. Bulk exit/entry by foreigners or institutional flows.
  • Spreads & liquidity shifts — A widening spread can signal uncertainty or a big player positioning.
  • Early opportunities — Spot breakouts, weak opens, volume spikes, and new momentum early.

This is your daily screen for direction and momentum.

🟢 My Watchlist 2 — Portfolio Watchlist What You Already Own

Add only the shares currently in your portfolio using:

  • Search
  • Add Script (+ icon)

To remove sold out shares or rename:

  • Long-press the watchlist title
  • Or use the web portal to quickly clean and rearrange

Why this Watchlist Matters

It helps you react faster without overthinking.

  • Track performance intraday — Your holdings in one clean screen. See how these shares perform daily.
  • Identify buy-the-dip opportunities — If your counter hits support, add more immediately.
  • Take profits with confidence — Hit targets? Weak signal? Your decision is instant.
  • Fast reactions during volatility — No clutter → faster execution.

When combined with Portfolio Valuation, this is your action dashboard.

🟠 My Watchlist 3 — Opportunity Watchlist Future Buys & Research Zone

This is where you track counters you do not own (yet).

Add counters through:

  • Search
  • Add Script (+ icon)

Clean it using:

  • Long-press title → remove
  • Web portal for faster management

Why This Watchlist Helps You Enter Better

  • Study price action without emotions — You don’t own it, so you stay objective.
  • Prepare entry levels — Watch how it behaves around support, resistance, and news.
  • Spot future gainers early — Some counters build strength before breakout day.
  • Filter noise — This list is for potential opportunities only.

When you buy a counter here: move it to the Portfolio Watchlist and delete it here.

How to Build a High-Quality Watchlist

Pick a manageable list. For each counter, understand:

  1. Support & Resistance Levels
Know your buy and sell zones — avoid emotional trading.
  2. Daily Volumes
Shows liquidity and how easily you can enter/exit.
    • Low volume = higher risk
    • High volume = smooth execution
  3. Price Behaviour During Volatility
Each counter has a personality: aggressive spikes, quiet consolidation, slow institutional drift. Understanding these patterns gives you timing confidence.
  4. Identify Potential Movers of the Price
Every price movement has a driver:
    • 🚨 Foreign Investors — Exits → sudden drops; Entry → strong rallies
    • 🟦 Local Retail Flow — Short-lived, noisy moves
    • 🏦 Institutional Activity — Smoother, sustained trends
    • 📉 One-Off Large Orders — Distort prices temporarily; once cleared, price resets

This knowledge helps you avoid chasing fake or unsustainable moves. You can get these details on the online trading portal. The app may show fewer details but is still helpful.
  5. News Sensitivity
Some counters react instantly to: earnings, announcements, political events, forex movements, sector news, and general sentiment. Tracking this helps you anticipate moves before they appear on the chart.

Your Watchlist = Your Trading Advantage

A strong watchlist makes the market clearer. It shows:

  • ✔ What you own
  • ✔ What you want
  • ✔ What the market is doing
  • ✔ Where opportunities are forming
  • ✔ Where risks are building

Clear structure = better execution. Your trading becomes:

➡ Faster
➡ More accurate
➡ More confident
➡ Less emotional
